A little note from Aaron, our Director of Coffee

A pour over is my favourite way to brew coffee. It has existed for years (years!) as the humble Melitta cone filter, so ubiquitous as to be taken for granted and forgotten by the young coffee Turks today.

The method’s recent resurgence stems from a 180 pivot from “batch brewed” coffee, in a wave buttressed by the arrival of Japanese gooseneck kettles and the iconic Hario V60 and their ilk.

It signals something slower, more considered, bespoke and honest to God freshly made in a way that has always been the best way to brew and enjoy coffee.

In this spirit we humbly present the Ethical Bean Pour Over brew bags. These riff on the above pour over zeitgeist with a nod to convenience; a welcome respite of luxury at camp or on the road when a single cup of coffee would be a just the thing, if only….and now you do.

  • Place the origami like structure over your cup.
  • Pour enough hot water to wet out the coffee and allow it to bloom. Think about how awesome this is going to taste for about 30 seconds.
  • Pour the balance of the water; pulsing the pour (pour-pause-pour…) or a slow tortured stream will brew a stronger cup. More rapid application of water slightly less so.

Coffee that is ready when you are.

Yes, question in the back…is this better than instant?

It is. ;)
